Project Description

Project Brief

In May of 2021, IE Studios was approached by the owner of Medalyn Salon (Kennesaw, GA) with a desire to create a new website flush with new photographs and video. He said the website should be textured and colored with Medalyn’s distinct watercolor brand.

Of course, we were excited to take the project knowing this was an awesome opportunity to make an amazing website.

The first step was to capture beautiful new photographs and video of the salon on a day and time when he anticipated the place would be busiest. The objective was to capture the stylists, clients……all things Medalyn in a relaxing way that truly reflects the experience they provide for their clients.   Nothing should be staged or “fake” in any way. We also wanted to capture aerial shots of the salon’s location within the Whole Foods shopping center in Kennesaw, GA.

Zane Limone (Owner at Medalyn Salon) said he wanted to make sure the lights and chairs and other fixtures around the salon were just right before the shoot, so we scheduled it out a few weeks in advance. I’ll say this…..Medalyn Salon just looks cool.

So after we captured our photos and video, Charles Georgi (Creative Director) wanted to make Medalyn’s photos work for their brand in the most artistic way possible. So, we turned each salon photograph into a highly customized watercolor piece of artwork. See below for the same photograph (shown above) converted into a watercolor piece:

After converting each of these salon photographs into gorgeous watercolor artwork, we went a step further and asked if Zane liked the idea of converting the Stylist portrait photographs into watercolor as well. We showed him an example, and there was no question. Here are a few examples of those Stylist portraits:

A Website With Video

Zane’s first exposure to IE’s web designing capability was the IE Studios website. He remarked on how engaging it was to see video playing automatically near the top of each page. He asked if we could do the same for Medalyn Salon.

How Can We Make Your Day Incredible?

Skills Needed for success on this project

IE Studios photography and video really helped this website stand out from so many other salon sites.  The artistry that went into each salon artwork piece (along with each Stylist portrait) is unparalleled.  Creating a beautiful, functional website that enhances the Medalyn brand combines all of the essential skills we possess in order to provide an amazing end product for our clients.

Initial Concept Planning

Began a week before our shoot on May 24, 2021.  We were told that Medalyn wanted us to capture the beauty of their salon….the chandeliers, the mirrors, the texture.  It really is a nice place to look at.  Once we knew how to shoot it, we planned the layout of their new website with “ease of use” and “elegance” in mind.

Shoot

All shooting was done on May 24, 2021—both photography and video inside, and then aerial photo and video captured from outside.
The inclusion of aerial photography was useful when creating a “location” artwork piece on the client’s “Book Now” page.

Watercolor Artwork

Perhaps the most time consuming part of this project, creating these stunning artwork pieces was, perhaps, the most critical to its success.

Web Design and Development

Once all the Photo and Video Editing, Coloring, and Watercolor Artwork pieces were completed, the actual website was beautifully constructed with all the right design elements.  By integrating all of those gorgeous photographs and videos into a powerful WordPress theme, our client was given a world of customization options he can complete on his own if desired.  We provided Medalyn with training on their new website platform, and the project was a complete success.

Imagine

The most interesting aspect of any good photograph is its story. How did you come to be now from where you came from? What challenges and struggles did you need to overcome on your way to here and now? How did you overcome those challenges, and what did they teach you? What’s your story?

Something Different

A great image captured in a still photograph should move the beholder with some kind of emotion. It should portray people as real and authentic….the way they actually are in real life. It should inspire ideas and actions and thought. From the time of conception to final delivery, enjoy the creative journey.
